We are pleased to announce that Ankeri has become a Global Member of SMDG—Ship Message Design Group, a non-profit association dedicated to advancing digital communication standards across the maritime industry.
SMDG brings together container terminals, shipping lines, and technology providers to improve data flow across the global supply chain. The group’s mission is closely aligned with ours: enabling smarter collaboration through open, interoperable systems that support operational efficiency and long-term sustainability.
As a member, Ankeri will take part in shaping digital standards for streamlined communication between key maritime stakeholders. Ankeri’s goal is to bring practical experience and a modular approach to infrastructure into these conversations and help ensure that the solutions developed reflect real-world needs across the maritime industry.
Ankeri at SMDG’s 79th Plenary Meeting
Our VP Customer Success, Joern Springer recently represented Ankeri at the SMDG#79 Plenary Meeting in Bangkok, Thailand. During the event, he delivered a presentation on how building scalable system infrastructure using API building blocks can support collaboration across the maritime sector—particularly in efforts toward decarbonisation. His session explored a case study demonstrating how APIs can help contextualize data, align ongoing initiatives and ultimately support the achievement of decarbonisation targets.

“Joining SMDG is a natural step for Ankeri as we continue to support the industry’s shift towards digital collaboration. We look forward to supporting the development of digital standards with practical insights from our work and to learning from others driving progress across the industry.” says Joern Springer, our VP Customer Success.
Sönke Witt, Co-Chair of SMDG, welcomes Ankeri: “Exciting to have Ankeri join the SMDG family! Their focus on collaboration and sustainability aligns perfectly with our goals. Looking forward to the journey ahead!”
At Ankeri, our work centers on creating scalable, modular infrastructure for data collaboration—enabling shipping companies to make more informed decisions, reduce emissions, and increase transparency. Membership in SMDG gives us a platform to help shape standards that reflect real-world operational needs.
SMDG (Ship Message Design Group) is a UN/CEFACT-recognized user group focused on the standardization of EDI and digital messaging in maritime transport. Active since the late 1980s, the group has developed and maintained widely used message formats such as BAPLIE and MOVINS, and continues to drive forward the digital transition of global shipping through collaboration, technical expertise and a shared focus on interoperability.
